When choosing windows for your home there is a selection of different designs with different features available. Discuss with joiner as to which designs can be fitted to your home. All of the designs described are available in a range of shapes and sizes to fit new or existing properties. The fixed designs can be arranged with opening windows to increase variety and allow for more ventilation.

Fixed

FixedFixed windows are a cost effective and simple option for your home. Fixed windows are simply a pane of glass that doesn't open and are therefore very energy efficient allowing minimal heat to escape.

Sliders

Sliding windows are the most popular form of opening windows. Sliding windows are comprised of two or three matching panes of glass. A simple design will have a single pane of glass that slides across another fixed pane of the same size. For larger designs a central pane can have two sliding panes on each side, allowing more ventilation. Sliding windows usually feature a locking handle which allows the window to be locked and left open with a small gap to provide ventilation whilst keeping intruders out.

Hung Windows

Hung WindowsThere are two kinds of hung windows; double and single. Double hung windows open vertically with both panes opening. The bottom pane moves up into the top pane while the top pane moves down into the bottom. Double hung windows have more options for letting air into your room as you can choose to let air move in from the top or the bottom of the window.

Single hung windows have a similar appearance to double hung windows and are also a cheaper option. Single hung windows just feature a moving bottom pane. Single and double hung windows both feature a central handle and locking mechanism and some also feature the locking ventilation security feature.

Casement

CasementThe design of casement windows is similar to that of a door. Casement windows have hinges on one side and a locking crank handle on the other. Casement windows are fitted with durable weather stripping around the pane which provides strong protection from the elements. With their unique design, casement windows can be opened fully for optimum ventilation.

Awning

Awning is a modern style of window that can be opened fully like a casement window but horizontally. Awning windows have hinges either on the upper or lower corners of the window with a latch in between the hinges. Awnings have a limited ventilation area but are cheaper to install than other types of window.
